NOTICE OF APPLICATION TO REPEAL HERITAGE DESIGNATION AND DEMOLITION

440 DIBBLE STREET WEST, PRESCOTT, ON

Take notice that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Prescott intends to repeal By-law 36-83 and By-law 35-84, 440 Dibble Street West as a property of culture heritage value or interest under section 32, Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990. and the subsequent approval of a demolition permit for the building under section 34, Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990.

Description of the Property: The Subject Property described as; Plan 19 Block 3 Lots 27 and 28 is located on the north side of Dibble Street West within a historic residential neighbourhood.

The property was designated in 1983 for the history of the prominent Prescott businessman associated with the J.P. Wiser Distillery, the property displays an important role in the streetscape of the north side of Dibble Street West, and is an example of a two-storey Victorian dwelling. The designation was amended in 1984 to protect the Victorian Craftmanship of the interior wooden mouldings around the door and windows, the grand staircase, elaborate ceiling mouldings, wood paneling, and wooden shutters.

The application seeks to repeal the designation By-law, thereby removing the property’s heritage status for the purpose of demolition of the building.

Notice of Objection

Any person may send notice of objection to this proposed repeal and demolition, before 4:30 p.m. on August 24, 2026 (30 days after the date of the publication of the Notice), together with a statement for the objection and relevant facts, to the Deputy Clerk at Town Hall.
