NOTICE OF INTENTION TO DESIGNATE
186-198 KING STREET WEST, PRESCOTT, ON
Take notice that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Prescott intends to designate 186-198 King Street West as a property of culture heritage value or interest under section 29, Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990.
Description of the Property: The Subject Property described as; PLAN 19 BLK 2 PT LOTS 10 AND 11 RP 15R7123 PART 5 AND RP 15R8230 PARTS 1 2 AND 4 UNREG, PLAN 19 BLK 2 PT LOT 11 RP 15R7123 PARTS 1 AND 2, and PLAN 19 BLK 2 PT LOT 11 is located on the north side of King Street within the historic downtown core of the Town of Prescott.
Statement of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest
The property was constructed in 1879 as a commercial block commissioned by The Masonic Order; the building is a prominent and representative example of late nineteenth century commercial architecture in the Town of Prescott.
Description of Heritage Attributes: Key attributes that contribute to the cultural heritage value of 186-198 King Street West related to the front (south) façade only regarding the design and physical attributes which includes the red brick masonry, masonry detailing, original dimensions, spacing and proportions of the second and third storey window openings, configuration, and the lintels, sills and arches that are associated with the architectural detailing. This property provides historical and associative attributes being reflected with the roofline cornice, and decorative elements and symbolic detailing associated with The Masonic Order. This property has historical value or associative value because of its direct associations with a theme, event, belief, person, activity, organization, or institution that was significant to the community. These properties display a high degree or craftmanship or artistic merit.

Notice of Objection
Any person may send notice of objection to this proposed designation, before 4:30 p.m. on August 24, 2026 (30 days after the date of the publication of the Notice), together with a statement for the objection and relevant facts, to the Deputy Clerk at Town Hall.
