Town of Prescott Welcomes New State-of-the-Art Rescue Apparatus to Fire Department Fleet
Prescott, ON – The Town of Prescott is proud to announce the arrival of a brand-new rescue apparatus, significantly enhancing the capabilities and response readiness of the Prescott Fire Department. The new vehicle was officially received on January 23, 2025, and is expected to be in full service before the end of May.
Manufactured by Rosenbauer and acquired through City View Specialty Vehicles of Mississauga, Ontario, this cutting-edge unit represents a major investment in public safety for the Town.
Key features of the new rescue apparatus include:
-
FX Custom Commander cab and chassis
-
Powerful Cummins diesel engine
-
Top-mount Hale pump with a capacity of 6,800 litres
-
3,500-litre water tank and 130-litre foam tank
-
Bumper hose bed equipped with 60 metres of hose and foam firefighting capability
-
Two transfer hose beds with 60 and 90 metres of hose respectively
-
Integrated heavy hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life)
This highly versatile rescue unit will serve multiple emergency response functions, including motor vehicle collisions (MVCs) and fire suppression. In the event the department’s main pumper is out of service, this unit can also respond to structural fires and other emergencies.
“This investment in our fire department demonstrates our Council’s ongoing commitment to community safety and emergency preparedness," commented Mayor Gauri Shankar. "We are incredibly proud of the work our firefighters do, and we’re ensuring they have the equipment they need to protect Prescott residents and businesses effectively.”
The department’s 1998 International 4900 Rescue Vehicle will remain in the fleet, now serving as a Support Unit. It will provide additional equipment at scenes and function as a blocker vehicle at MVCs, ensuring scene safety for responders and the public.
“The addition of this apparatus marks a significant upgrade in our firefighting and rescue capabilities,” said Fire Chief Renny Rayner. “Our firefighters now have access to more modern tools and technology, allowing us to respond more efficiently and safely to emergencies.”
