The B’s Bakery Owner Goes Bald and Raises $371 for the Make A Wish Foundation!
Johanna Bedell-Bleeker, co-owner of The B’s Bakery in downtown Prescott, raised $371 for the Make A Wish Foundation by participating in the Go Bald For Wishes Hair MassaCure event in Ottawa this weekend. Bedell-Bleeker, along with her brother-in-law Bruce Bedell, both had their heads shaved bald at the event, which raised about $36,000 to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Johanna and Bruce – making up the team The Bald B’s - registered for the event on Wednesday, February 24, and managed to raise almost $400 in pledges just two days thanks to the generous donations of Prescott residents and businesses, and friends and family.
More than $250 of the pledges came from area residents and businesses, which Bedell-Bleeker collected on Friday, after dying her hair pink and purple in preparation for the event on Saturday.
“I am astounded and so thankful for the generosity of this town. They made it all so worthwhile,” said Bedell-Bleeker, who plans to participate in the event again in 2011. “Hopefully with more lead time we will be able to double or triple our pledges next year!”
All those who donated have been listed on both The B’s Bakery website – www.TheBsBakery.com - and on the bakery’s Facebook page. Pictures from the event can also be viewed at both sites.
