Downtown Plan

More properly titled the Prescott Downtown Design & Urban Design Guidelines, this critical planning document was developed in 2005 through extensive consultation with the community.  A supporting document to the Official Plan, it is really much more than just a downtown plan as it also addresses the town’s waterfront and how the waterfront and the downtown core interact.

A series of facilitated community meetings and break-out sessions led to the development of this ‘vision’ for historic Prescott and a step by step plan to revitalize our downtown in a balanced approach to promote healthy businesses, tourism and a great quality of life for residents.

This is a very well-referenced plan as we have already acted on several of the recommendations such as new welcome signs and installing banners and planters to improve that first impression for visitors.  We have renovated the Forwarder’s Museum as a Welcome Centre for tourists and have initiated the planning for the redesign of the waterfront.  More of the recommendations will be incorporated into the new zoning by-law and a program of incentives to support this plan will soon be available through our Community Improvement Plan.
