The Friends of the Prescott Library is a not-for-profit voluntary organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the services of the Prescott Public Library. This includes programs and activities for members of all ages.
We aim to enrich the cultural environment of the community by sponsoring special events, arranging book and poetry readings, fostering book clubs, enhancing story writing skills, promoting reading programs for young people and adolescents and arranging events that encourage everyone to read.
Our activities will be directed to strengthening all aspects of our Library as an essential economic and social resource of our community.
OUR PURPOSE:
Promote goodwill and support for the Prescott Public Library
Stimulate public awareness of Library needs
Seek out sources of cultural and educational programs for the Library and to occasionally sponsor such programs
Promote a library system second to none through its advocacy role
Ensure, through fundraising, that the Library is able to offer to patrons enhanced services and resources beyond the basic offerings
Promote love of reading and love of learning
Provide for all interested persons an active forum for the discussion of books and ideas
Assist in the promotion of literacy in the community
The Government of Ontario's Seniors Community Grant Program "Ontario 150" gave the Friends of the Prescott Library a unique and special opportunity to make a significant gift to our Library, its patrons and our community. Our Library received additional assistance for this story sharing project in 2018 through the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
