German Shepherd puppy in snow

Every dog in the Town of Prescott requires a yearly dog licence. Dog licences are to be renewed in January each year or when a new dog is obtained.

The cost is $20 per dog as per bylaw 23-94. Dogs found without a license are subject to a $70 fine.

Licences can be purchased at the Town Hall, 360 Dibble St. W or by phone with credit card payment by calling 613-925-2812 ext. 6200.

A dog license is The Town of Prescott’s way to ensure your pet is protected if they become lost. The revenue collected from dog tags offsets some of the cost the Town pays for the services of an animal control officer. When the animal control officer is called to pick up a stray dog, the officer will capture the dog and provide it food and shelter until the owner can be contacted. If you don’t have a dog licence, it could mean that your pet won’t be returned to you. Help us to make sure that all pets return home safe and sound.

The Town of Prescott Animal Control By-law 23-94 also limits the number of dogs per household to two
